From Dar Es Salaam to Buffalo Springs Game Reserve (Stage 1)
Set out Late from Dar. First picked up Nikki at the airport and then had breakfast Lots of rain. Saw a long shed and decided to pitch tent there. I have never had such rain, but the plus side was that I had my first display of Fireflies. I found that absolutely fascinating since I had never seen that before.

The next day. Prepared for a wet trip but had no rain all day. Did not see Kilimanjaro, covered in cloud.
Stayed over at the Christian Brothers Edmund Rice Secondary School. Paul and Bill are two brothers from New Zealand and Clem hails from Australia. To get to the school I had to do 4km of the muddiest road? Or track I have been on.
Started the day Lazy, Had breakfast with Paul. The road was even worse than yesterday because of the rain, but I made it without falling. The road to Kenya border was not good and I underestimated the time it would take me. Coming through Kenya border was a pleasure. No Fees and smiles.

Last 30 km into Nairobi a nightmare. Heavy traffic, bad road just awful.
Found camp site had moved and found at 8pm in the dark after some very kind help form two African ladies who phone and got instructions and led me to the site.
Sleeping in a dorm Keith a peace Core and Leonard.
Had a leisurely day here in Nairobi. Coffee and buns at a bakery about 20 min walk away from camp. SMS instructions to Nic on how to get to site. In evening braai with Nic, Nikki and Leonard.

I started the day with a leisurely breakfast with Nic and Nikki, the off to go and service my scooter. Had a job getting the back wheel off because of rust. The mechanic in Grunau Namibia did not grease the wheel hub when putting the wheel back on. But the tyre is changed, the bike serviced and I am ready to go.
This evening repacked Nick's Land Cruiser, shifted the roof tent and rack and distributed the weight as much as possible to the bottom to get a better balance. Early start planned for tomorrow.
I took the road to Isiolo, not a very good surface but OK. Crossed the equator somewhere near Nanyuki without even knowing. Stopped at an airfield with some fabulous planes and helicopters just outside of Nanyuki where we met a pilot Dave Shaw. From this airport they fly out a lot of veggies to UK. It is also a hub for flying to various game reserves.
We decided to go a bit further than Isiolo to Samburu Game lodge. But the road was wet, stony and slippery. I had a fall and a good bang on the shin. So we stopped at the entrance to Buffalo Spring Park, which is adjacent to Samburu. Camped there at the Garamara Gate and had Mohamed, Faisal, Ali and Hussein to help us set up camp and build a camp fire because there are no fences and the animals walk freely.
