1st VESPA RALLY OF 4 REGIONS – VARZI (PV)
On May 29th and 30th the Vespa Rally Championship, in its third edition this year, came alive with the "VESPA RALLY OF 4 REGIONS", organized by the excellent Vespa Club Pavia team.
The beautiful town of Varzi, in the province of Pavia, has mobilized in order to provide a worthy frame for the first stage of the Vespa sports event per excellence.
Great attendance of pilots, who exceeded the sixty entries with many new arrivals. A clear sign that this type of tourist event is beginning to be really appreciated by the Vespisti.
Start-up at 11 am, on Saturday morning, in the square of the big events. The Vespa Village was set up all around the Tourist office, available for secretarial services, thanks to the very helpful and efficient local council.
During the testing of the vehicles' efficiency, security and legality were at the first place. The Vespa Club Pavia team has entertained the guests with tasting of the famous salami of Varzi.
At 3.30 pm the beginning of the challenge. The participant with the number 1, last year's champion Claudio Federici, started the Championship, which promises to be very challenging, by leaving for those places of tourist delight.
A few drops of rain along the way, but the first day of Vespa Rally of 4 Regions ended, from a "Vespa" point of view, with no problems whatsoever, but with the satisfaction for the very rewarding course.
The gala dinner is a chance to socialize and exchange some impressions on the results of the day; but above all it is an opportunity to honour the gastronomic specialties of the regions hosting the Vespa Rally Championship. Far from the handlebars and saddles, when you do not have to drive, you can taste the DOC wine, popular thanks to the area: Bonarda.
Sunday morning, at 8.30 am: everybody was on time in the closed park and ready for the briefing.
Departure for a path of 147 km, through Passo Penice, Bobbio, Capanne Casola and back again to Varzi, in order to touch Liguria, Piedmont, Lombardy and Emilia, strictly respecting an average speed within 30 km/h.
The victory went to last year’s champion Claudio Federici, of Vespa Club Mantova.
Second place went to Gaetano Abbruzzino of Vespa Club Pavia, at his first participation.
Third place at Roberto Pinna, of Vespa Club Turin.
Excellent performances of the team of "Vespa Club Pinerolo Il Vespino", which placed four competitors in the Top 10. Among them, Stefania Gurgo, sixth in the overall classification and first in the female category.
The fourth place of the "wild card" Denis Millo, of Vespa Club Pula - Istria, at his first participation in the Championship, showed that this stage was a kind of “stage of newcomers".
The Vespa Rally of 4 Regions ended at 5 pm, with the awards ceremony, which was officiated by the Councillors of Tourist and Social Activities of the Municipality of Varzi, who deserve the thanks of everyone for having contributed so actively to the success of the event.
Next stage will be in San Marino, June 26th and 27th, for the 1st Vespa Rally of Titano, which will develop along the exciting and romantic streets of the Apennines of Emilia Romagna.
