MORE THAN 6.000 PARTICIPANTS TO VESPA WORLD DAYS 2010
July 1st/4th - 183 Vespa Clubs from 14 different countries met in Portugal.
July 5th, 2010. The Vespa World Days, the world's largest gathering dedicated to Vespa, concluded yesterday in Portugal, after four days of celebrations. Also this year, it has received thousands of fans to celebrate the most famous scooter in the world.
After Zell Am See in Austria last year, Cefalu in Sicily in 2008 and San Marino republic in 2007, this year Fatima hosted, from July 1st to 4th, the largest international gathering of scooters.
183 Vespa Clubs registered to the Vespa World Days 2010, from 14 different countries: from Spain, Macedonia, Greece, Croatia, Norway, Austria, Germany and many other countries. A great number of fans, who have marked the record attendance of over 6,000.
This year’s event involved adults and children: both the youngest fan, 6 years old, and the eldest one, 78 years old, are Portoguese.
During the four days, lots of Vespisti celebrated the values of friendship, adventure and passion, which have been accompanying the very famous scooter, symbol of the “made in Italy” for over 64 years.
Unique stories and situations, in a perfect Vespa style: the epic feat of a German girl from Würzburg, who has travelled by herself for 3,300 km, in order to reach Fatima and celebrate with all her friends Vespisti.
Climax of the event, like all previous editions, the great Vespa Parade, started on Saturday morning.
Thousands of Vespa travelled for 105 kilometres: started from Fatima in the morning, the procession marched around the city, then reached Bathala, Nazaré and finally arrived in Alcobaça. An unusual sight for the inhabitants of these towns that have seen this massive multicoloured snake flowing down the streets.
The famous Lusitanian town was the scene of a series of events celebrating the mythical scooter: excursions to neighbouring cities, visits to local museums, festivals, music and award ceremonies.
The breathtaking Vespa Acrobatic Show, an extraordinary event on Saturday evening which aroused enthusiasm and excitement in the whole Vespa Village: flames and jumps for a group of about five Vespisti, who did acrobatics on a vintage Vespa. A tribute to the exploits of Piaggio test pilots who promoted Vespa with jumps and stunts during the '50s and '60s.
Great success also for the first Vespa Trophy, the tourist trophy born with the Vespa World Days this year, which involved many Piaggio dealers across Europe. 1027 Piaggio dealers participated to this initiative and accepted to be Check Points in order to allow all Vespisti to accumulate the highest number of stampings and win the Vespa Trophy 2010.
The winners were three boys of “Vespan and Salam", from San Damiano D'Asti (AT), who covered over 2,000 km and crossed four countries.
"See you all in Oslo" was the greeting of all Vespisti who, departing from Portugal, have already arranged to meet in Norway, for the 2011 edition of Vespa World Days.
